Individual Note:
     Bartholomaus and wife Eve were Swiss Mennonites who arrived at Philadelphia, September 27, 1727 on the ship "James Goodspeed" * and settled in Earl Twp., Lancaster Co., PA.

The name Segrist can be loosely translated as "pig feed". However, a much more likely origin is the noun sacristan, a custodian in charge of the sacred vessels and vestments of a church.

In Lancaster Co., Bartholomaus was a farmer. His will was written September 11, 1767; probated December 6, 1768 naming wife Eve, sons Lorentz, Soloman, Bartholomew, daughters; Barbara, md to Michael Zug, Susanna, Eve, Grandsons; John & Solomon **

In Eve's Will of 1792 she lists her het living children and explains that these two grandsons were sons of her deceased son Joh.

Both grandsons ca,e to now Franklin Co., Quincy Twp. and Warranted land named "Wisdom" and Wisdon's Way" February 12, 1793, and June 5, 1795. Solomon Secrist died 1817 leaving land to his son Solomon Jr. John Secrists Will is August 21, 1797. His wife Mary wrote Will June 24, 1814; probated 19 August, 1823 naming the heirs: Elizabeth Frederick, Mary Small, Abraham Secrist, Solomon Secrist and John C. Secrist.
