Individual Note:
     Michael Collins, Cahergal, Newport. The death took place at Mayo General Hospital Castlebar, of Michael (Mick) Collins, Cahergal, Newport, on Sunday morning, October 26. His remains were reposing at his residence from Monday afternoon at 3pm and at St. Dominick’s Funeral Home, Newport, on Tuesday evening from 5pm, with removal at 6.45pm to St. Patrick’s Church, Newport. Mass was celebrated by Canon Eamon Concannon PP Newport, for the repose of his soul on Wednesday at 12 noon.During Mass, the Readings were read by Mick’s grand-nephews Patrick and Brendan Collins and the Prayers of the Faithful were read by Sean Collins, Breda Carey, Tom Fleming, Michelle Crowe, Michael Loftus and Kevin Loftus. The Offertory Gifts were brought to the altar by his niece, Noreen O’Neill, and nephews, Pat and Michael Collins, and throughout the Mass, hymns were sung by members of Newport Church Choir accompanied on the organ by Miriam Chambers.Michael, or Mick as he was more popularly known, was a member of a well-known local family. He spent most of his life working in Kilburn, London, before returning home in the early ’90s. He then enjoyed his life of gardening, strolling around the farm, trimming the hedges and, above all, meeting people.Mick is survived by and mourned by his sisters, Bridie Fleming, Tuam, and Ann Loftus, Surrey; nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Paddy Loftus; many relatives and a wide circle of friends.Following the celebration of Mass Mick, was laid to rest in Burrishoole Cemetery. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
